Hi all, I have a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI which an intermittent hard to start problem. When the problem is occurring, the engine will turn over and begin to fire but then suddenly drops off without starting. It will turn over a few more times without any sign of firing before repeating the previous. Eventually it will start.
Probably one or more glowplugs failed. I had that a few weeks ago. Below about 7C, It started fine, but gave clouds of smoke, and seemed like it was on two cylinders for about 10 sec, then it was fine once warmed up a bit. Car is 2014 1.6 TDCI Estate, 30,000 mls. Problems - occasional '1/2' crank when start button pressed. Second press starts engine. Occasional failure to stop engine when button pressed. Display indicates ignition circuit off (ie pixelated with no text). Lights, indicators, a/c, radio not operating.
