As far as I can remember (ordered Jan 05),my car was £1500 dearer than a sport,but that included the DSG gearbox. You couldn't get S-line in 2wd without DSG at that time. I seem to remember they later started doing the S-line pack only for £1000. It was a helluva lot of kit for £1000,hence the fact most A3/A4 I see are S-lines.

2018 Sports differential. Biggest difference I see is the thingy on the side which reminds me of a starter, normal diffs don't have it. You could have torque vectoring done by braking also which might be what you are reading into the statements. The actual sports diff may not have appeared until 16-17 but I dont' know.
